Hello, even if you don't run a DNS **server** (named / BIND), you sould definitely use resolv.conf to map symbolic addresses (ftp.cdrom.com) to 32 bit IP addresses. Could you be more elaborate on "I can't get netscape or lynx to work" TfH ____________________________ Séparateur Réponse ________________________________ Objet : Re: R*p : Re: newbie PPP question Auteur : brownicm@netunlimited.net Date : 01/07/98 20:07 THIERRY.HERBELOT@telspace.alcatel.fr wrote: > have you updated /etc/resolv.conf ? The fbsd manual index entry for /etc/resolv.conf refers to the chapter for DNS. I'm not running DNS and don't plan to. Do I need /etc/resolv.conf. I don't have one at present. > > > can you ping a numeric IP address ? I can ping my ISP. I can ping other ISP's.
