He asked for references to companies doing business with FreeBSD, and was sent several. They were all of the "XXX is using FreeBSD to YYY, because it is stable, high-performance, and unencumbered by license issues..." variety. These messages were carefully and politely written, and I believe Mr. Raymond was justifiably impressed by the glimpse he got of the FreeBSD community.
