I just did an upgrade yesterday, of course I was already running 3.3.6 and the upgrade seemed to only apply a patch. The port program itself told me the proper way to do an upgrade was to make deinstall then make install. I seem to remember having to do more than that when I went from 3.3.5 to 3.3.6, but it did work last night.
