So... to be clear... you want to be able to specify the _source_ IP that
your
irc client will use when it connects outward? The OS isn't going to do that
for you. Your client will have to have an option that allows you to specify
the source IP (much like the '-S' option of 'ping').

There's been some discussion recently about what the OS will select as
the source address. In this case its pretty clear. Its going to grab your
main IP address (i.e. the one that doesn't have a netmask of 0xfffffff and
does share a subnet with your default gateway/next hop).
