Weird, both the hd and the xvd notation seems to work for me.

For the record my configuration is:

disk = [ '/root/FreeBSD-15.0-CURRENT-amd64.raw,raw,xvda,rw',
         '/root/FreeBSD-14.0-RELEASE-amd64.raw,raw,xvdb,rw' ]

No idea, maybe NetBSD carries some patches in ports to support that
syntax.  AFAICT from the vbd format document that I linked on my
previous reply it's not a valid notation.
