The FreeBSD mailing lists work the way most mailing lists do on
the internet via majordomo.

has the list of them as well as instructions on how to subscribe. If you
are new to FreeBSD, start off with the mailing list
questions@freebsd.org. Also, you will find that any FreeBSD questions you
might have most likely have already been asked by someone and answered by
someone else, so familiarizing yourself with the mailing list archives will
be very helpful.
