https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D247074 Bug ID: 247074 Summary: boot2 is unable to load kernel directly Product: Documentation Version: Latest Hardware: amd64 OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Some People Priority: --- Component: Manual Pages Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org Reporter: aceqbaceq@gmail.com CC: doc@FreeBSD.org 12.0-release r341666 generic amd64 According to man (8) boot: However, it is possible to dispense with the third stage altogether, e= i- ther by specifying a kernel name in the boot block parameter file, /boot.config, or, unless option -n is set, by hitting a key during a brief pause (while one of the characters -, \, |, or / is displayed) b= e- fore loader(8) is invoked. Booting will also be attempted at stage tw= o, if the third stage cannot be loaded. I tried to boot freebsd without using loader ( via boot2 by specifying a kernel file name) . As a result the system just say : BTX halted. -- 0:ad(0,a)/boot/kernel/kernel ... BTX halted -- I propose to edit man 8 boot and remove misleading information. Obviously boot2 can not boot kernel directly. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.=
