Folks,

Can anyone give me a hint as to what might be causing an odd
message in my /var/log/messages file that looks like this:

  Jan 12 00:28:11 chrome rpc.statd: invalid hostname to sm_stat: ^Xw^??^
  Xw^??^Yw^??^Yw^??^Zw^??^Zw^??^[w^??^[w^??%8x%8x%8x%8x%8x%8x%8x%8x%8x%2
  36x%n%137x%n%10x%n%192x%n^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P^P

And there follows around 1000 ^P characters.

Couple times a day on this woefully out of date machine:

    chrome 4482 % uname -a
        FreeBSD chrome.jdl.com 3.0-RELEASE FreeBSD 3.0-RELEASE #0:
        Sat Oct 17 17:45:06 GMT 1998
        jkh@kickme.freebsd.org:/usr/src/sys/compile/GENERIC i386

    chrome 4483 % uptime
        5:27PM up 105 days, 3:30, 3 users, load averages: 0.00, 0.01, 0.00

Is it just time to restart things and let memory re-settle?
Is it just time to install 4.2 or so? :-)

Thanks,
jdl
