You know, when it came out this morning, besides thinking I would wait to
see if someone else howled, I was thinking that it would have been real
nice is there was some kind of safety flag that was settable on a make
world to get it to skip the install phase, and let me try installing
things a little gingerly.

You made it all the way thru the gcc upgrade without a bobble; this was
overdue.
