This is probably because the time is stored as a 32-bits integer in
/var/run/utmp and /var/log/wtmp.
from /usr/include/utmp.h :
%%
struct lastlog {
int32_t ll_time;
char ll_line[UT_LINESIZE];
char ll_host[UT_HOSTSIZE];
};
struct utmp {
char ut_line[UT_LINESIZE];
char ut_name[UT_NAMESIZE];
char ut_host[UT_HOSTSIZE];
int32_t ut_time;
};
%%
I think there is a utmpx pseudo-standard that could help with this
problem. I also seem to remember someone was working on this but I have
no idea where it's at nowadays.
Cheers,
Maxime
