     Sorry, but, if the above doesn't help you, you really do have to
give excruciating details, if you want any help.  Without excruciating
details, it's extremely difficult to help via email.  It's analogous to
having your car break down, and then sending a *letter* to your
mechanic, saying: "Help!  My car doesn't work."  Please realize that
it's very difficult to help under these circumstances.

     That said, the output of wicontrol would be useful, as well as
every setting that the linksys access point reports or allows you to
change.

Other comments:

* Have you tried upgrading the firmware in the access point (if this is
  even possible)?

* You did explicitly set the (FreeBSD) laptop's wi0 network name to be
  the same as that used by the linksys, right?  Note that I'm talking
  about the network name, and not the access point name.

  [ If, for some strange reason, the linksys doesn't support changing
    the network name, and doesn't tell you what it is, have you tried
    using the WaveLan WaveManager software under Windows to see what
    network name the access point is using?  ]
