Intel MatrixRAID hasn't worked well on FreeBSD for quite some time. See Operating System Support, note the bugs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Rapid_Storage_Technology Be aware there is, in RELENG_8 and newer, better support for this using the graid(8) utility. I have been meaning to test this for months now, but haven't had the time.
