Netcraft has a website where you can try to find out any webservers OS (and theirs uptime, webserver software etc.). It works in most cases. Here is the link: http://uptime.netcraft.com/ Looking up msn.com, passport.com and hotmail.com all returns Windows2000. However, I have heard a rumor that after Microsoft bought hotmail, which was running on some *nix system before, they switched to Windows2000 and experienced a lot of problems, which eventually made them switch back to Unix with Qmail. But that's just a rumor and might not be true... From my research and experience, I am convinced that a well configured *nix system will be much more robust, faster and most of all more secure. But that's just an opinion.
