This was fixed in HEAD, but I haven't merged the fix because I too would
prefer that the script be retired from the base, and the ports be fixed. I
would be glad to assist with this effort, as would the fine folks at
freebsd-rc@freebsd.org.

I've cc'ed the maintainers of those 3 ports for their feedback.
