Its not a question of this or that, it is a question about standards in the net, usability in general. And I like MIME, like I like email. IMHO the cleanest implementation of MIME in a browser is still lynx with .mailcap and .mime-types, you have the association of a MIME type with an application and can teach the browser, which extension it should give the file for the application. Applications with hardcoded extensions.... Try this with Mozilla etc.. .mailcap etc, it was as simple as this in WIN 98SE and now it isnt anymore. And this isnt bashing, it is just an observation.
