Well, I'm not terribly interested in having X work on these old machines. IMHO, servers are better administered with a serial console than X windows. I'm just interested enough to give Allen suggesetions that might help to solve his problems, but I think that if he values his time & wants an X server head for his server-class alpha, he'd be better off with an old 486 for X, and conserver for the alphas console.
