I suggest to move it to /bin, where it can be of use when restoring backups. Having to space forward/backward on a tape drive with dd(1) and /dev/{n,}rsaX is a nuisance. I suspect there are also systems out there where mt is required to set drive modes (compression, density, etc) before you can restore from tape.
