Hi, On Tue, 12 Oct 1999, Michael Lucas wrote: > Traditionally, the best time to get on a FreeBSD branch has been when > it hits *.5. Is this still true with 3.x? Huh? There was no 2.5-RELEASE. I am pretty sure there were no 1.5 releases either. There have been 2.*.5 releases, but the numbering scheme has been slightly altered w/ the advent of the 3.* branch. > With 2.2.x, we has several months of "reliable stable" operation. > I'm just concerned because I'm waiting to upgrade some 2.2x systems > until 3.5. As far as I know, there aren't any major stability issues w/ 3.2 or 3.3. I don't however use NFS and many other things so maybe I've missed those. I think you are probably safe to upgrade, maybe a machine at a time, to 3.3. > I'd rather not go through the upgrade just to face the same software > backporting issues I'm currently facing with 2.x systems after only a > couple months. This is a separate issue and I'm not sure what the problems are w/ the software. 2.2 is old and a.out and a.out support will disappear. My guess is that most of the ports will still compile on 2.2* but there are certainly those which will not. We could help you decide more if we knew exactly what issues you were having w/ software.
