The OS-dependent kernel support necessary to actually *use* DRI is Linux-only in the base XFree86 CVS tree, at least as of 4.1.0. Why this didn't make the release notes, I'll never know. That said, there is a project that's gotten workable DRI on FreeBSD. At a minimum, you need to install Glide and a kernel module. The place to look is: http://gladstone.uoregon.edu/~eanholt/dri/ I've never tried to get this working on FreeBSD, so that's the best I can do.
