Strange.  The ppp.conf looks OK, assuming that this line is really on
one line:

>  set dial "ABORT BUSY ABORT NOCARRIER TIMEOUT 5 " ATE1Q0 OK-AT-OK
> ATDT TIMEOUT 40 CONNECT"

This looks familiar.  I trust that you're not really using this
authname and authkey?  It wouldn't explain your current problems, but
it would stop you from being able to authenticate.

How are you invoking ppp?
