It varies from one implementation to the next, but generally some or 
all of the DSP is done in software, all of the line-level protocol 
(compression, error detection, negotiation, etc) and all of the 
command-level code are also handled by the host CPU.

The complexity level is massive.  The DSI softmodem just needed a 
firmware download, and the support was implemented the wrong way.
