It turns out devcpu-data does not having anything to do with the T480 booti=
ng
succesfully. Setting:

    cpu_microcode_load=3D"NO" (from "YES")

still boots the T480 fine. And I still see the message:

    CPU microcode: updated from 0xb4 to 0xe0

I did notice that powerd++ complained with the message:

    powerd++: (EDRIVER) frequency control driver not supported: hwpstate_in=
tel0

So I disabled powerd++ and enabled powerd in /etc/rc.conf instead to see if
that triggered the problem so many Thinkpad owners are experiencing, but no,
the T480 still boots fine.
