I have tried 12-CURRENT (HEAD), both with gcc-5.5.0 and gcc-6.3.0, and had the same result. I also tried going backwards to 11.1-RELEASE (pre-p1) and had the same result. Something interesting however - 11.0-RELEASE* does work with gcc-5.5.0 (see output below), but does not 6.3.0 (gcc6 still has the same result with 11.0). So I have at least narrowed it down that a change between 11.0-RELEASE-p16 and 11.1-RELEASE broke gcc-5.5.0 ppc64 kernel builds from SLOF's perspective, and I have no proof at this point gcc-6.3.0 ever worked (it would be a big hassle to get anything pre-11.0 to compile with XCC from my experience).
