The thing is that when you you have a ./obj directory, make seems to look there for its makefile. When it doesn't find it, it *doesn't* look elsewhere, or more precisely, in ./, as could be expected.=20 So the "fix" is to rmdir obj/. I'll commit changes to the base makefiles soon.
