In general, there are a number of annoyingly different things. New way: FTPANONPASS Password to send in an anonymous FTP transfer. Defaults to ```whoami`@''. Support values are: active active mode FTP only auto automatic determination of passive or active (this is the default) gate gate-ftp mode passive passive mode FTP only FTPPROMPT Command-line prompt to use. Defaults to ``ftp>''. Refer to COMMAND LINE PROMPT for more information. FTPRPROMPT Command-line right side prompt to use. Defaults to ``''. Refer to COMMAND LINE PROMPT for more information. vs the old way: FTP_PASSIVE_MODE If this variable is set to something else than `NO', ftp will use passive mode by default. ftp_proxy URL of FTP proxy to use when making FTP URL requests (if not defined, use the standard ftp protocol). http_proxy URL of HTTP proxy to use when making HTTP URL requests.
