I think it's an unofficial extension - I *do* remember seeing it somewhere, but now don't have access to my usual array of platforms to check. Maybe AIX? HP/UX? Solaris? I kinda thought it was a nice idea.. The more you can push system returned types away to arm's length, the better! Jordan
