In my case, I have a local HTTP server (Apache) running, and I point the domains I want to get rid of to that in my DNS, then I set up the HTTP server to just send a blank page for any query for that domain. If I make my DNS authoritative for the domain, it will never attempt to query any other DNS server for the _real_ address of the domain, so it works just fine. The only thing is that you have to gradually add the various domains that are serving ads as you encounter them, and also the domains in question become completely inaccessible (not usually a problem, unless you ever want to visit those domains explicitly). ----- Original Message ----- From: "Simon Siemonsma" <s.siemonsma@hccnet.nl> To: "Anthony Atkielski" <anthony@freebie.atkielski.com> Cc: <freebsd-questions@freebsd.org> Sent: Thursday, December 27, 2001 22:06 Subject: Re: Block WWW advertizing banners & auto spawn web pages using ipfilt er or ipfw > Sounds like a good idea to me, but how does it work? > > Simon Siemonsma > > On Thursday 27 December 2001 07:45, you wrote: > > How about just setting your DNS or hosts file to point to a bogus location > > for domains that serve advertisements?
