What about the subject? Can the LD_LIBRARY${TYPE}_PATH variables be checked for the executables of the appropriate type before checking the LD_LIBRARY_PATH itself? The idea comes from Irix, which has LD_LIBRARY32_PATH and LD_LIBRARY64_PATH in addition to LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Than, of course, LD_PRELOADELF and LD_PRELOADAOUT... It would appear, that this only requires modifying libexec/rtld-*/rtld.c and the man-pages...
