Can I use dsb? That depends on your background. Using UNIX (including FreeBSD) requires a much more extensive background in computers than does Windows. It additionally requires that you be willing to spend far more time tweaking the system to get it up and running and to keep it that way than would be the case with Windows. If you are a computer geek, you might prefer UNIX, particularly if tinkering with a computer is more enjoyable to you than actually using it. If you are not a computer geek, but you still wish to "escape" Windows, you can try a Mac instead. But be careful what you wish for, as the grass on the other side isn't as green as it looks. > Will it be compatible with my computers mother > board, sound card, video card, cd, modem, > Panasonic monitor, Cannon printer, Vivitar scanner? Everything looks okay except the printer and scanner. For those you might need special drivers, and if the required drivers are not available for UNIX, you're out of luck. You should check the Canon and Vivitar Web sites to see if UNIX drivers are available for your printer and scanner. Sometimes generic drivers are available for certain types of devices, but it's best not to count on that. > Can I use my favorite Internet Provider, Bluelight? Just about any ISP is compatible with UNIX, unless there is something wildly proprietary about it (and I'm not aware of any ISPs that are that proprietary).
