A few questions arise: Could the issue described in comment #10 be reproducible
when sendfile(2) uses UFS as a backend? 
Is sendfile(2) on ZFS reliable and safe? AFAIR there were issues with
sendfile(8) and ZFS in the past. 

FWIW: the file I have experimented with seems to be untouched, at least the
checksums of the file and those taken from various historical ZFS snapshots are
the same.
