I missed the beginning of this thread but according to my ISP, this modem will not work with FBSD because it needs a special Windows driver. I didn't believe them at first but then I was finally able to talk with a tech support rep there who uses FBSD at home and he confirmed it. I finally switched to the 3Com 812 Router they offered and have been happy ever since (with the exception of spending an extra $100 for routing capability I didn't need :) ).
