Thanks to Hans Petter Selasky (who asked a follow-up question about any
kernel modules that may have not been rebuilt) and Adrian Chadd (who
identified a bug and committed r361834 to fix it).

I hand-applied the r361834 fix, rebuilt (& installed) the kernel; reboot
was successful. :-)
