The zone file looks fine. What's named.conf look like? Your
server does not believe that it's authoritative for val-med.com

Server: ns.rdrop.com
Address: 199.2.210.241

Non-authoritative answer:
val-med.com nameserver = NS.RDROP.COM
val-med.com nameserver = SATISFIED.APOCALYPSE.ORG

Authoritative answers can be found from:
val-med.com nameserver = NS.RDROP.COM
val-med.com nameserver = SATISFIED.APOCALYPSE.ORG
SATISFIED.APOCALYPSE.ORG internet address = 192.48.232.24
