Do you have anything plugged into the USB ports? The board with ethernet can draw 700mA, if you are powering it from a USB port in a computer it will only be able to supply 500mA which will cause issues. The network chipset on the Raspberry-Pi is sensitive to it's input voltage. [1] explains how to test if the power supply is inadequate.
