Hi I had this problem when I was installing 3.2-RELEASE on my new machine. I had an SONY ATAPI DVD drive as the secondary master device and a drive of some sort as the primary master. Moving the DVD drive to be the primary slave enabled FreeBSD to detect it. It has been fine ever since. Later I added another drive as the secondary master and everything is still working fine. I never did find out why it couldn't find the DVD when it was the secondary master. Experimental boots with a Linux floppy showed that it found it with no problems no matter where it was located. Hope this helps Rick > I've problems installing FreeBSD 3.2 on a computer using only IDE > drives.
