It's kinda hard to know what could be causing the problem. Could you put the following in your kernel config file: options DDB And then, try fdisking the drive. When the machine hangs, type ctrl-alt-esc, and then 'trace' at the DDB prompt. Send the stack trace to the list. That may give us an idea of what is going on.
