Therefore I thought that I at least could tell you that I set up a PE750 for a client some months ago. The server uses a CERC SATA RAID 2, and is working very well (fast & stable). I tested things like hotplugging and booting of a stripe and it worked as expected. The server is using 4.10 (5.2.1 didn't work with the card, 5.3 (very!)probably does). I really wouldn't run 5.x for production use anyway.
