I suppose it might, but I can't replicate it. Maybe someone who originally

I was trying to be polite :) In fact, I did scan all the sources for
KANJI uses and not just relied on the manpage. The source very reliably
checks for 'nokanji' variable every time it wishes to use a KANJI feature
in an #ifdef. And it even will automatically reset correctly keymap
tables every time the value of ``nokanji'' or ``dspmbyte'' changes.
