Hi, there:
Last we successfully installed FreeBSD 2.0.5 from CDROM (with the help of
your people.) Now we'd like to upgrade it to 2.1.6. I went to the ftp site
(ftp.freebsd.org) I downloaded all the *.TXT files and then read INSTALL.TXT,
etc. Now I have several questions to ask:
1. It says that I have to have all the files under 'bin' directory for the
floopy installation. I guess that's the only directory I have to download;
others are optional. Is that correct? Or, what else whould I download?
2. It says that I have to format the floppies and then copy those files to
the floppies. It gives the following commands to format the floppies in
unix format:
fdformat -f 1440 fd0.1440
disklabel -w -r fd0.1440 floppy3
newfs -t 2 -u 18 -l 1 -i 65536 /dev/rfd0
But how do copy these files to the floppies in FreeBSD 2.0.5? Could I
use 'tar' command?
Also it says that: "Each distribution should go into its own
subdirectory on the floppy, e.g.: a:\bin\bin.aa, a:\bin\bin.ab, ..."
How to do that?
3. Do I have to download the file ./floppies/boot.flp? Do I have to copy
this file to a floppy and then reboot the system from it, or should I
go /cdrom to run the program 'go' to do the upgrading work?
Appreciate your help!
