However, top is not configurable in all the same ways as ps. IIRC, I was feeding the output of ps into a logging script. ps gave me fine output, but I didn't like the fact that I had to spawn a new instance for each report. FYI, I'm currently doing a similar sort of looging activity, at a much finer level of granularity, using DTrace.
