I am installing FreeBSD-4.0 on my Compaq Proliant Server. It has 3 4.3-GB WIDE ULTRA SCSI Discs mounted on a disk array.
FreeBSD-2.2.6 never detected any disks. Release 4.0 detects them but after copying the files this error keeps appearing.

Remaking all devices; then
MAKEDEV returned a non-zero status ; then
Some errors occured setup not completed successfully.

But sometime the files are copied correctly but when booting the system complains that there is
no bootable kernel.

What can be the cause of this problem.

Previously there was Windows NT running on this server but I want to kick it out for good. Could it be
that NT did something fishy to my disk.

Help please,
Ganizani.
