Hi Graham the JAVA_HOME variable points (in my case) to /usr/local/openjdk6 you can also find java applications under /usr/local/share/java, actually I install my java applications there. Finally remember that you can put your jar files wherever you like as soon as you remember to add them to the CLASSPATH variable. Best.
