Try:
console "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" vt100 on secure
in /etc/ttys
Of course you have to change 9600 if you use a different speed.
Works for me.

odd, now I get a login prompt, but I still have a keyboard that is dead ;(
and you are right, it has to be ttyd0 ..
