question, what is the status for this now?

any patches i could try? i mean, like, i'm ready to try anything
at the moment, but linux, to solve this thing...

i have several machines i can use for testing. so far i've twiddled
with timings and stuff, the code is from last week, but as far as i
can tell (i read "all" the major lists including cvs-all) nothing
has been committed into the tree...
