The P4 and Athlon are comparable, and are both good. They're also similarly priced, unless you go with the latest, bleeding edge processors, in which case the Athlon is cheaper. A P4 PC may be simpler to spec out, however, because of the various "Athlon rules" that must be followed when building a PC (e.g., must use AMD-approved power supply, must use high-quality RAM, must have adequate cooling, etc.).
