This isn't completely true..  sysinstall can be told to install a
different version in the options settings under 'Release Name' and then
go about doing the upgrade of the system which is also able to be
navigated from sysinstall at that time.

This brings me to the other point of upgrading a system.  you can in
most cases just use cvsup to upgrade the userland and kernel source
and 'make world' to rebuild the system that way.  There aren't many
major configuration changes but when there are they usually make mention
of them in the release notes and other places as well.

Just depends I would guess on how hard you want to make upgrading your
system..  :)
