EXCLUDING FILES WITH TAR

Run this command

echo stuff > exclude <--- stuff is the directory to exclude dont forget 
to use >> if amending more directories the exclude file.

then run

tar cvXf exclude backup.tar /home/terry/ <----- the X is the exclude 
switch and f is the tar file name

they must be in the same order

Example below

tar cvXf exclude delete.tar /home/terry

Allso full path to exclude file is some times needed
