Boy! That's a big one.
I'll offer this:
Advancing the state of the art in the tradition of BSD while
maintaining a reasonable balance between concerns of portability
and performance.
At this point in time, I'm not as concerned about mainstream
acceptance of FreeBSD as some people seem to be. That time will
come...
Although I would prefer that -core avoid social and political agendas,
it's not a stretch to imagine that the emergence of free and open
systems such as FreeBSD will have a lasting and important effect
on our education processes and perhaps even our governments.
