Logitech F310 should work, it is not xorg related.
I use F310, F710 without any settings in xorg, all apps work with game pad =

/dev/input/js*.

In past I fix game pad support in SDL (not SDL2):

I remember. And in this mode SDL open usb device without any drivers and
without webcamd.

You can install sysutils/jstest-gtk to ensure that your game pad work ok.
I check now F310 works in both modes in this app, via webcamd.


PS: I do not try to use game pad to work with xorg apps as mouse, all apps =
that
I use with game pad have game pad support in their code.
