This is ugly (at least to accept it as default).  It should always be
possible to mount /usr read-only (e.g. via NFS).  If some local /tmp
is unable to hold enough space, make it a symlink to somewhere with
more space instead.

Does locate.updatedb use /var/tmp or /tmp?
